FELIX BARTH
Bass & Composition
FEMA
FEMA grew out of a simple joy for experimenting — recording and producing songs in my bedroom just for the fun of it. After spending many years as a bassist in bands of different genres, the desire to explore other instruments and write my own songs grew stronger. The most recognizable influences are probably 90s alternative and psychedelic rock. But jazz, with its harmonic and improvisational freedom, as well as the stylistic variety of my other bands, also finds its way into FEMA.
With each song, I try to create an individual, atmospheric soundscape and build a bridge between multi-layered and catchy songwriting.

Frollein Smilla
Frollein Smilla was the first band I joined after moving to Berlin in 2018. Eclectic and vibrant, the group blends English-language indie pop, German punk, and funky brass arrangements into a colorful mix. The band’s unique sound reflects both the diverse musical backgrounds of its members and the collaborative spirit that drives our songwriting.

Jamila And The Other Heroes
In Jamila & The Other Heroes, psychedelic rock meets Arabic music. Jamila’s lyrics are often politically inspired, exploring themes of liberation and empowerment. I find it incredibly exciting to dive into the cosmos of the Arab world and to contribute to this band not only on bass and backing vocals but also as a composer.

The Upsessions
The Upsessions bring back the authentic early reggae sound of the 1960s. I joined the Dutch band in 2015 while studying music in Amsterdam, and since then we’ve played shows all over Europe — from intimate club gigs to major festivals. Dressed in their trademark green and yellow tracksuits, the six-piece not only performs as The Upsessions but also serves as the backing band for artists such as The Pioneers from Jamaica and the Judge Dread Memorial project.

Loiros
Loiros is a band from Galicia, Spain, that bridges psychedelic rock with the alternative sounds of the ’90s — always leaving plenty of room for improvisation. In addition to playing bass, I also occasionally take on lead vocals. Together, we’ve recorded two albums and played numerous small shows across Spain and Portugal.

JUZZ
Just like Loiros, JUZZ is a band that mainly performs in the Galician region of Spain. I met the bandleader and guitarist Virxilio Da Silva while studying music in Amsterdam, and I’m very glad that we’re still making music together today. JUZZ is a purely instrumental band that blends my passion for rock and improvised music into a unique mix of prog and jazz rock.

Teaching
In addition to my work with these bands, I also offer bass guitar lessons. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your technique, I enjoy helping players develop their own sound and musical identity. My teaching approach is practical, creative, and tailored to each student’s goals — always grounded in the joy of making music together.
